WELCOME TO MY WEBSITE
It takes courage and wisdom to ask for help. Congratulations for considering to give your self the time and support to grow and deal with life’s challenges. People come to therapy to tell their story about how they or others are hurting, share their deepest yearnings and concerns, and to learn how to cope more effectively within their family, marriage, and social relationships. Therapy provides a safe, confidential (with a few exceptions), consistent, and boundaried environment for that to occur. I believe that it is our collaborative relationship that facilitates growth and positive changes. I look forward to talking with you to see if my practice is the best place for you to meet your goals.
MY LICENSE & EDUCATION
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist with a masters degree in marriage, family therapy.
Family therapy helps people to achieve a greater maturity, and a balance between connectedness and selfhood. This work is usually short-term and solution focused. It is down-to-earth, practical, and effective. Goals may include: to increase better communication skills, untangle relationship conflicts, and support a healthier family life. Marital conflict, kids acting out, in-law problems, life transitions, problems with friends, co-workers or bosses are usually improved with a family/relationship therapy approach.
In conjunction with family therapy, I use other modalities, such as cognitive/behavioral therapy, which interrupts negative self-talk and behavior, and helps a person overcome self-defeating patterns. Other times, I use action techniques, such as family sculpting, role-playing, Gestalt empty chair work, and mind-body tools that help to relieve stress and anxiety, such as breath work, progressive relaxation, and meditation. Inner child work is useful to see how the past has shaped current beliefs and behaviors.
I also have a doctorate in clinical psychology with a depth psychology major. Depth work is usually longer term and helps people cope with unconscious forces, overwhelming emotions, enduring relationship conflicts or mishaps, and worrisome dreams. In depression, loss of structure, and ending of relationships, people often go to their emotional underworld where their gifts and challenges live. It is from that place that renewed life can be forged.
